Club Info

Shire Oak Cycling Club came into being in during 2014 after Three local lads decided to go for a regular Sunday morning ride. Old rickety bikes and a passion for riding through our great countryside. Those early days of riding 6 mile trips to a cafe and back home again were the seeds that started the growth of the club. The club prides itself on the humble beginnings and has at its heart those who just ride for the love of it.
The 3 became 4, then 6 then 7,8,9,10 , the distances travelled began to grow at the same time. In 2015 it was decided that the group should design a kit and that they should acquire the name ” Shire Oak Leisure Riders” (SOLR). The kit was based on the colours of the local shire oak school uniform.
The number of attendees continued to rise 16, 18 ,20. The group had its fair share of ladies attending which they are immensely proud of to this day. Late 2016 the group had in excess of 25 riders on one ride out. At this point a decision was made to have the group affiliated to British cycling. This brought with it some securities of 3rd party insurance to group rides.
Numbers continued to rise, the facebook group had over 100 active members, with the paid up B.C group members having reached over 50. Early 2018 numbers of between 20 and 30 were regularly turning out. The group started to divide the ride days into two distances, which was hugely successful. One ride covering between 20 and 30 miles (Tranquilo) while the other group covered between 30 and 70 miles (Grouppetto).
Mid 2018 it was decided unanimously that the group could do with a facelift on the kit and the name. Shire Oak Leisure Riders were to become Shire Oak Cycling Club, as the Leisure riders part of the name was slightly misleading and the kit undersold the club.
A new lively kit was designed and the name change happened.
The club continues to go from strength to strength, with it’s regular 8.30am Sunday roll outs as well as many other well organised and fun rides. The future is bright for this club, but it’s up to you to stear it’s path into the future. https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/club/profile/8160/shire-oak-cycling-club
