Shire Oak Cycling Club attend the winter classic sportive.
On a cold and very very windy January Sunday morning, S.O.C.C members descended upon the town of Hednesford.
12 hardy brave souls made it to the start line with winds forecast up to 50mph due to arrive. 60 miles lay ahead with over 4000ft of elevation thrown in for good measure. As expected of S.O.C.C it was an eventful ride with 11 riders making it to the finish one of whom had to overcome punctures close to the finish, another who was on his longest ever ride and first ever sportive. The 11th rider a known Luddite (no technology to lead the way), took a wrong turn at a critical point and ended up having a pleasant but unexpected ride back from Burton town centre. No harm done though as a 60 mile ride was the end result for him.
All in all a good show from the S.O.C.C contingency.
